THE GYALWANG KARMAPA VISITS DEHRADUN

After taking part in the 25th anniversary of Mila's Se-Cham at Dekyiling Tibetan Settlement, Dehradun, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa visited the Drikung Kagyu Institute’s branches Jangchubling Monastery, Songtsen Library, and Samtenling Nunnery.

Mila's Se-Cham is a sacred dance which was first performed celebrating Milarepa’s completion of the task of building the nine-story house called Lhodrak Sekhar Guthok. Traditionally, the Se-Cham is performed from the 12th to the 16th day of the 6th month of the Tibetan calendar in Lhodrak, central Tibet.

On the next day, September 1, 2012, the Gyalwang Karmapa, together with his sister and attendants arrived at Drikung Kagyu Jangchubling Monastery. All the monks,nuns and staff of the respective branches of Drikung Kagyu Institute and the Labrang welcomed him with a big reception. A Mandala was offered in the temple, followed by an offering of tea and auspicious rice.

His Holiness the Karmapa said, “Various schools of Buddhism introduced in Tibet the Dharma teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni. The different Kagyu schools are like siblings from one family. It is very important that we study the Dharma, and it is most important that we practice the Dharma well.”

Later in the afternoon, he paid a visit to Songtsen Library. Although His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang was not keeping too well, the two Holinesses had tea together. Subsequently the Karmapa visited Drikung Kagyu Samtenling Nunnery, and kindly blessed the surroundings and all the nuns.
